Narasimha Temple In Joshimath 

The famous temple of Lord Narasimha is about 1200 years old and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The Presiding deity of the temple, Lord Narasimha, half-man and half-lion, is believed to be the fourth avatar (incarnation) of Lord Vishnu. Like Badrinath, the Lord Narasimha too is seen positioned in 'padmasana'. Interestingly, the left wrist of the deity is getting thinner day by day. It is believed that when the deity hand will fall off, the road to Badrinath will get blocked as a result of a land slide.

Valley of Flower 

This U-shaped alpine valley, formed by retreating glaciers, remains snow-covered from November to May. When the ice thaws in June, the valley is rich with herbs, medicinal and flowering plants, which burst into a profusion of colour in July and August. The month between mid-July and mid-August is the ideal time to visit.
The Valley of Flowers. The Valley of Flowers National Park is above Ghangria in the upper reaches of the Bhyundar Ganga in the Zaskar Range of the Garhwal Himalaya, Chamoli District. Bounded by high mountain ridges and peaks on all sides, 8,950 ha of land were declared a national park with effect from September 1982.It is a 5 km trek from Ghangria, which is 13 kms from the roadhead at Govindghat, between Joshimath and Badrinath.

Haridwar 

Haridwar Located in the foothills of Shivalik range, Haridwar is reputed as the gateway to the four pilgrimages in the Uttaranchal region. The Ganga leaves the mountains and enters the plains with Haridwar being the first major town on the plains

Joshimath 

Joshimath is a mesmerizing place with lovely and eye catching views of the snow mountains, greenery and pleasant weather conditions. Joshimath is also known as Jyotirmath. It is one of the four great 'maths' established by the Adi Guru Shri Shankaracharya in the 8th century AD. There are several ancient temples for the tourists to pay visit. The town is the winter abode of Lord Badri, who is brought down from Badrinath to the Vasudeva Temple at Joshimath somewhere around the festival of Deepawali. At a distance of 16 km from Joshimath is the Auli.

It is one of the few places in India offering winter sports like Ice Skiing. One has to go to Auli by a ropeway from Joshimath. The Nanda Devi National Park is 23 km away from the town of Joshimath. One can trek to the park, which abounds in rare flora and fauna. The tourists can go to Badrinath, Kedarnath, Chopta, Valley of Flowers and Hem Kund sahib Gurudwara on excursion from Joshimath.

Rishikesh 

Rishikesh is one of the most popular pilgrim centres and gateway to the Himalayan Shrines of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. The Yoga Centres of Rishikesh have enhanced the significance of the place. From this point on, the great Ganges leaves behind her mountain home and enters the vast plains of Northern India.

Auli 

Auli is today a promising ski spot, a perfect health resort and an ideal vacation resort, both for the winters and summers. Breathtaking view of snow-capped peaks all around you. Auli has one of the best slopes in the world to take up winter sports activities. The 3km long slope ranges from 2519 m to 3049 m offers a magnificent panoramic view of great Himalayan peaks like the Nanda Devi (7817m), Kamet (7756m), Mana Parvat (7273m) and Dunagiri (7066m).

You could reach Auli from Joshimath (1890m) by taking an enchanting 3 km ride on the world's most highly situated and longest ropeway (cable car. From an altitude of nearly 3000 meter from the sea level, with a vertical drop of 529 meter, the snowy slopes of sliding down the beaten snow on skis at a speed of 20-40 km per hour can be a thrilling or harrowing experience, as the case may be.

Dehradun 

It is set in the foot hills of Himalayas at the centre of the 120 kms long Doon Valley. The beautiful town is referred as the gateway to Mussoorie and Garhwal interior. Dehradun is the gateway to the famous hill station of Mussoorie and the pilgrimage spots of Haridwar and Rishikesh. The city of Dehradun has various tourist spots like the Tapkeshwar Shiv temple which derives its name from water droplets originating from a rock falls on the Shivling placed in the shrine. It is a wonderful picnic spot and can be enjoyed with children. Nainital

Jim Corbett National Park is one of the most popular protected areas of India. Located in the state of Uttaranchal, at the foothills of Himalayas. Spanning in an area of 520 sq Km, with a core area of 330 sq Km, the Corbett National park is a perfect habitat of Tigers, Leopards and Deers. The park was established as National park in 1936, and was named after the governor of United Province, Sir Malcolm Hailey. In 1952, it was renamed to Ramganga National Park, before getting its final name, Corbett National Park in 1957, The park is a part of the 1200 sq km stretch of forest.

Char Dham Yatra 

The holy River Ganga, rises from the glacier at Gangotri, the River Yamuna from Yamunotri and the Mandakini and Alaknanda flow past Kedarnath and Badrinath respectively. According to the scriptures of Hinduism, these are the most sacred of all pilgrimages, and undertaking a journey to them will not just wash away one's sins but ensure release from the cycle of birth and death. For centuries, saints and pilgrims, in their search for the divine, have walked these mystical vales known in ancient Hindu scriptures as 'Kedarkhand'. All these four holy locations are situated in the North Indian state of Uttaranchal, Uttaranchal is known as Devbhoomi or land of the Gods. Pilgrims from across India and the world journey to Uttaranchal to undertake the Char Dham yatra.

Yamunotri 

The main temple is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. The present temple was built by Maharani Guleria of Jaipur in the late nineteenth century. Once destroyed by an earthquake, it has been rebuilt. A holy dip in the nearby tank filled by hot springs and cooking rice in its water is common rituals performed by the devotees.

Gangotri 

Along the right back of Bhagirathi stands the shrine of Gangotri dedicated to the Goddess. Perched at a height of 3042 mts., it was constructed in the early 18th century by a Gorkha Commander, Amar Singh Thapa. Every year, lakhs of pilgrims throng the sacred temple between May and October. By November, Gangotri is covered by snow. It is believed that the Goddess retreats to Mukhba, her winter abode (12 kms downstream).

Kedarnath 

Kedarnath is a Hindu holy town located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is a nagar panchayat in Rudraprayag district. The most remote of the four Char Dham sites, Kedarnath is located in the Himalayas, about 3584m above sea level near the head of river Mandakini, and is flanked by breathtaking snow-capped peaks. Kedarnath hosts one of the holiest Hindu temples, the Kedarnath Temple, and is a popular destination for Hindu pilgrims from all over the world, being one of the four major sites in India"s Char Dham pilgrimage. Situated at and altitude of 3,581 mts. above sea level, against the backdrop of the awe-inspring Kedarnath range , the temple of Sri Kedarnath is visited by hundreds of devotees every year.

Badrinath 

The holiest of the four important shrines in Garhwal. The town is at an altitude of 3,133 m. above sea level, situated on the left bank of river Alaknanda and exactly between the two mountains Nara and Narayan. The shrine is dedicated to Vishnu, the preserver and falls in the religious itinerary of every devout Hindu. Badrinath (10,350 ft.) is in a wide valley at the headwaters. The road through the hills in the background leads to the Mana Pass and Tibet. The presiding deity at Badrinath is a form of the god Vishnu

Kasauli 

A charming town in Himachal Pradesh and you will feel that you have been taken back in time, to the colonial era of the 19th century. Clad with forests of chir-pine, Himalayan oak and huge horse chestnuts, the hills surrounding Kasauli presents a gripping sight.

As you move through the narrow roads of the hill resort, which slither up and down its course, you come face to face with enchanting vistas. The hill station was developed by British during the 'hey day' of their empire. Today, Kasauli draws tourists from all over India with its mystical charm and is contributing to travel & tourism in Himachal Pradesh.
